Families heading to Cardinham Woods will soon be able to follow a brand new themed trail inspired by a much loved children’s book, with the Room on the Broom Trail launching later this month.

Room on the Broom comes to the woods

Forestry England has announced the launch of the new trail, which brings Room on the Broom to life in a woodland setting.

Created to celebrate the book’s 25th anniversary, the trail will be available throughout 2026 and is designed to encourage families to explore the forest together. The experience is based on the story by Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler, with activities woven into the natural surroundings.

From Tuesday 27th January, visitors will be able to follow Witch and her friends through the forest, helping to find her missing hat, bow and wand. Children will also collect magical ingredients along the way to complete a spell, with each stop offering hands on activities and forest themed facts.

What families can expect

Each section of the trail has been designed with young explorers in mind, combining storytelling with outdoor play. Forestry England says the trail offers a mix of fun challenges, woodland learning and moments of magic aimed at making family visits more memorable.

Cardinham Woods manager Sam Lebbern said:

“We’re thrilled to bring the magic of Room on the Broom to Cardinham Woods with this brand new trail. It’s a wonderful way for families to enjoy one of their favourite stories, connect with nature, and create unforgettable memories together. The trail is packed with fun activities and enchanting surprises, it’s the perfect adventure for young explorers and I can’t wait for you to enjoy it!”

Trail packs available for £4

To accompany the trail, families can buy a Room on the Broom trail pack for £4. Each pack includes a themed lanyard, magic spell cards, stickers, a pencil, and a pop out craft that allows children to make their own witchy wand.

Part of a long running partnership

The new trail continues the partnership between Forestry England and Magic Light Pictures, which began in 2014 and has seen several popular children’s characters brought into forest settings across the country.

The Room on the Broom Trail will run throughout 2026, offering families another reason to spend time outdoors while enjoying a familiar story in a new way.
