Teylu Theatre Company Celebrates One Year Since Formation
A new community theatre group in south east Cornwall is marking its first birthday after a busy twelve months of performances, events and rapid growth.
A Year Since the First Meeting
On 29th January 2025, forty people gathered at Menheniot Village Hall to talk about creating a new adult community theatre company for the area. Just over a year later, members and supporters of Teylu Theatre Company are set to celebrate their first birthday on 31st January 2026 at Millennium House.
Festivals, Workshops and Community Events
During its first year, Teylu performers appeared at two music festivals at Port Eliot, taking on the role of rebel fairies in a waterside encampment. Members also acted as victims during a search and rescue exercise on Bodmin Moor.
The group hosted a Big Lunch in Pensilva, which later became a case study for Eden Project Communities. This was followed by a Christmas craft fair and pop up café, both held at Millennium House.
Teylu has become a regular presence around Liskeard, with stalls at the Community Fair at the Public Hall, the Liskeard Show and the Let’s Celebrate Linkinhorne event at Sterts Arts and Environmental Centre. Other activities included a vocal workshop, a rehearsed reading and a Greek night at Trevallick’s Farm Shop, along with a Games Day back at Millennium House.
Sell Out Performances in Liskeard
The year ended with two sell out performances of the spooky show This Is Halloween at The Liskerrett Centre, followed by a Christmas concert at St Martin’s Church. The concert featured the Benakord, the Launceston Home Ed Choirs and the Sterts Singers, and played to a packed church.
Reflecting on the first year, Teylu’s Chair Laura Pearson said:
“It’s amazing to think that just a year ago, Teylu was nothing more than an idea shared between a few like minded friends. Twelve months later, we’ve grown to a membership of over 70 people and delivered a full programme of social events, workshops, performances, and fundraising. I’m so proud to have been part of this story, and of a group that has stayed true to its core values: community, inclusivity, quality, and FUN.”
What’s Coming in 2026
Looking ahead, Teylu’s first full scale production of Calendar Girls is due to be staged in Launceston, Liskeard and Devon this summer.
Laura added:
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with local cancer related charities and businesses, and we hope the show will be a huge success for both Teylu and our partners.”
A Reveal Night will take place on 24th January at Millennium House in Pensilva, highlighting opportunities on stage, backstage and front of house. Roles are available for men and women, and the evening will also feature baking from Teylu’s team of bakers.
