Storm Ingrid Sends Huge Waves Crashing Into Penzance Seafront
Penzance was battered by Storm Ingrid today, with powerful waves smashing into the seafront as strong winds and heavy seas hit the town.
Photos shared by Penzance Council show dramatic scenes along the promenade, with spray blowing across the road and large waves breaking over the railings. In several shots, waves can be seen surging up and over the sea wall, with St Mary’s Church and the seafront buildings forming a striking backdrop.
The images also capture the sheer force of the conditions, with reduced visibility at times as wind-driven spray filled the air. Despite brighter spells, the sea remained rough throughout the day, with repeated waves pounding the coastline.
Storm Ingrid has brought unsettled weather to Cornwall, and the images from Penzance give a clear sense of just how challenging conditions have been along exposed coastal areas.
All photos were taken today and shared by Penzance Council.
