06/02/2026 – Weather in Cornwall – Yellow Weather Warning For Rain
A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office, covering the period from 5:00am on Thursday through to 9:00pm today.
Periods of rain and heavy showers are expected, bringing the risk of minor surface water flooding and disruption in some areas.
What to expect
The warning says spray and flooding on roads are likely, which could make journey times longer. Bus and train services may also be affected, with delays possible.
There is a chance of brief interruptions to power supplies and other services. Flooding of a small number of homes and businesses is also possible.
How the weather is expected to develop
An area of rain, heavy at times, is forecast to move northwards during Thursday morning. A short drier and brighter spell may follow, but this is expected to be brief.
Heavy, slow moving showers are likely through the afternoon, before merging into longer spells of rain during the evening, overnight and through much of Friday.
Rainfall totals of 20 to 30mm are expected in many places, with some higher ground areas receiving more than 50mm. With ground conditions already widely saturated, surface water flooding is considered likely. Driving conditions may be difficult due to spray, flowing water or flooded roads.
Advice from the Met Office
People are advised to check whether their property could be at risk of flooding and, if so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.
Those travelling are encouraged to check road conditions, bus services and train timetables, and adjust plans if needed to reduce the risk of delays.
The Met Office also advises being prepared for possible power cuts by having torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items ready.
Weather warnings can change quickly, and people are advised to stay up to date with the latest forecast for their area.
Why a yellow warning is in place
The warning has been issued due to a medium likelihood of the weather occurring and a low overall impact, according to the Met Office.
Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Set to Sweep In Overnight
South West England is set for a mixed few days of weather, with showers, brighter spells and periods of heavy rain in the forecast through to early next week.
Friday 6th February
Today has started damp and cloudy, with showers feeding in from the west. These have often been heavy, particularly earlier in the day. Conditions are expected to improve through the afternoon as cloud lifts, allowing some sunny spells to develop in the west.
It will be breezy at times near the coast, but temperatures are on the mild side, with a maximum of 11°C.
Tonight
Conditions are expected to turn increasingly unsettled this evening. A heavy band of showers will push northwards overnight from the south, bringing prolonged downpours and strong winds, especially along southern coastlines.
It will remain frost free overnight, with temperatures staying around 8°C.
Saturday
Saturday is expected to start unsettled, with further blustery showers moving in from the south through much of the day. These should gradually clear north eastwards later on, allowing some brighter and drier spells to develop as winds ease.
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach around 11°C.
Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday
Sunday is forecast to bring a mix of showers and sunny spells. However, conditions are expected to turn unsettled again from the west at the start of the new week, with further bands of heavy rain and breezy conditions at times.
Residents and visitors across the South West may want to keep an eye on the changing conditions, particularly with further heavy rain expected into next week.
