You Can Now Recycle Coffee Pods at These Cornwall Sites

Published On: 6 February 2026Last Updated: 6 February 2026By

Used coffee pods can now be recycled at five Household Waste and Recycling Centres in Cornwall, as part of a new trial being run by Cornwall Council.

The trial gives residents a new way to recycle both plastic and aluminium coffee pods, which are not always accepted through standard household recycling collections.

Five recycling centres included in the trial

The coffee pod recycling scheme is currently available at the following HWRCs:

  • Truro

  • Falmouth

  • St Erth

  • St Austell

  • Launceston

The council is running the trial in partnership with Podback.

How the pod recycling works

People using the service are asked to place used coffee pods loose into the clearly labelled containers provided on site. Each participating recycling centre has two separate containers:

  • One for plastic coffee pods

  • One for aluminium coffee pods

Using the correct container helps keep the materials separated.

Why coffee pods need separate recycling

Coffee pods are made from different materials, which means they are often not suitable for mixed household recycling. Dedicated collection points allow pods to be separated by material, making recycling possible through specialist schemes.

The trial at the five HWRCs provides a specific place for pods to be collected separately from other waste.

What to know before you visit

The coffee pod recycling points are only available at the five Household Waste and Recycling Centres listed above. Residents visiting these sites can bring their used pods with them and place them directly into the appropriate containers during their visit.

The scheme is currently being trialled at these locations.
