Mysterious Drum Closes Part of Par Beach After Emergency Callout
St Austell Coastguard was called to Par Beach on Saturday 7th February 2026 after reports of a drum that had washed up on the shoreline.
Emergency response at Par Beach
The team attended the scene and placed a cordon around the drum to protect members of the public. The drum had no markings and was sealed, with fluid inside.
Because of the unknown contents, assistance was requested from St Austell Community Fire Station.
Drum made safe and removed
Fire service crews attended wearing protective equipment. The drum was made secure and removed from the beach, allowing the situation to be dealt with safely.
Members of the public were thanked for staying clear of the area, which helped emergency services carry out their work without risk.
Safety advice
People are reminded to always call 999 and ask for the coastguard if they spot any suspicious object on the coastline, or if anyone is in difficulty on the coast.
