South West Braced for Heavy Showers, Hill Snow and Icy Stretches as Temperatures Tumble
The South West of England is set for a mixed few days of weather from Friday 13th February through to Tuesday 17th February, with heavy showers, strong winds and the risk of hill snow before colder and drier conditions briefly arrive.
Friday: Sunshine, Heavy Showers and Hill Snow Risk
Friday will bring a combination of sunshine and heavy showers. Through the afternoon, showers are expected to merge into longer spells of rain, with a risk of hail.
Hill snow is possible on the Moors heading into the evening. It will also turn windy later in the day, particularly in the west. Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 10°C.
Friday Night: Rain Sinks South with Frost by Dawn
Rain, along with possible hill snow, will move southwards during the evening, accompanied by strong winds.
Conditions are expected to turn drier and colder overnight. Clear spells are likely, with a frost developing by dawn and the risk of icy stretches. Temperatures are forecast to dip to around 0°C.
Saturday: Frosty Start Before More Rain Arrives
Saturday will begin with a frosty, cold but bright start. Sunshine is expected, although it will turn increasingly hazy through the day.
Further rain is forecast to arrive from the west by the evening. Winds will be much lighter compared to Friday. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 6°C.
Sunday to Tuesday: Wet and Windy Before Showery Sunshine
Looking ahead, wet and windy weather, including hill snow, is expected to clear on Saturday night and into Sunday, followed by blustery showers.
Monday will see sunshine mixed with blustery showers, while further rain is possible on Tuesday.
Residents across the South West are being advised to prepare for a spell of unsettled conditions, including frost and icy stretches, before a brief brighter interlude on Saturday.
