Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Team January Activity Summary Released

Devon & Cornwall Police’s Road Safety Team has released its latest monthly summary, detailing the scale of work carried out across the region’s roads during January.

The figures, shared as part of a fresh infographic, show the team’s continued focus on encouraging drivers and riders to slow down and make safer choices.

Education and Enforcement in Focus

During January, officers carried out 72 Community Speed Watch (CSW) sessions, working within communities to monitor speeds and promote safer driving.

A significant 11,010 NDORS educational courses were delivered over the month. The National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme offers education as an alternative to prosecution in certain cases.

In terms of enforcement activity, officers recorded:

• 4 seatbelt offences

• 24 mobile phone offences

• 311 officer-issued tickets

The team also committed 529 hours to speed detection, targeting those exceeding the limit on Devon and Cornwall’s roads.

Vehicles Seized and Public Reports

January also saw 261 uninsured or unlicensed vehicles seized.

Members of the public continued to play a role through Operation SNAP, with 395 submissions received. The scheme allows road users to submit dashcam and other footage of alleged traffic offences.

Officers made 187 medical referrals to the DVLA during the month.

The monthly summary highlights the breadth of activity carried out by the Road Safety Team throughout January, spanning education, enforcement and partnership work within communities.
