Driver Recorded at 129mph on A30 Between Camborne and Hayle

A driver has been caught travelling at 129mph on the A30 between Camborne and Hayle, more than double the 60mph speed limit.

According to Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Team, the Speed Detection team were monitoring speeds on the single-carriageway stretch of the A30 earlier this month during the evening.

In total, 28 drivers were found to be exceeding the speed limit. One vehicle was clocked at 129mph in the dark.

The team said: “Speeds like this are totally unacceptable at any time of day, let alone during the tail end of the evening rush hour in the pitch black.”

A Road with a Serious Collision History

The stretch of road is subject to a 60mph speed limit and has seen a large number of serious injury collisions in recent years.

Police data covering January 2020 to December 2024 shows numerous injury collisions along this section. On the force’s map, green triangles represent injury collisions, while blue diamonds indicate serious or life-changing collisions.

Interestingly, the one section that bucks this trend is the 1000 metre stretch either side of the static speed camera at Roseworthy.

Court Summons Expected

Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Team added:

“Maybe the driver didn’t know that our cameras use infra-red light to read number plates in the dark. They will realise their error when a court summons drops onto their door mat.”

The monitoring took place earlier this month.
