New Fowey RNLI Lifeboat Called Out Four Days After Arrival

Fowey RNLI’s brand new Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Spirit of Daisy, has already proved her worth after being called out on her very first shout just four days after arriving on station.

The launch took place on Saturday 21st February, marking the beginning of the lifeboat’s lifesaving service in dramatic fashion.

Breakdown in St Austell Bay

A new rib with three people onboard had broken down at Silvermine in St Austell Bay. One of those onboard contacted a Fowey lifeboat crew member directly for help.

The crew member advised the casualty to call 999 and ask for the coastguard so that the situation could be properly coordinated and the lifeboat launch supervised.

Fowey’s volunteer crew were paged at 1.45pm, and the Atlantic 85 was launched just five minutes later at 1.50pm.

Making Best Speed

Adam Russell was helm for the shout, with Callum Pritchard, Jan Philp and Oli Luck making up the crew.

The lifeboat made best speed to the location and the stricken vessel was quickly found. A tow line was set up and Daisy towed the rib back to Fowey.

The casualties were safely landed at Caffa Mill, bringing a safe conclusion to the first service call of the new lifeboat’s career.

Anyone who gets into trouble at the coast, or sees someone else in difficulty, is urged to call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
