Vehicle Seized After Antisocial Driving Report in Truro

A car has been seized in Truro after police stopped a driver for a second time within 12 months.

Officers acted following a report on Tuesday 24th February of a vehicle being driven carelessly in the Threemilestone area. The vehicle was stopped by the Roads Policing Team, who discovered the driver had previously been issued with a Section 59 notice.

A Section 59 notice is an official warning given by police to drivers whose vehicles are used in a way that causes alarm, distress, or annoyance to the public, or are driven carelessly or inconsiderately, including on prohibited land.

Because the driver had been stopped again within 12 months of the S59 notice being issued, officers had legal grounds to seize the vehicle.

Tyres Below Legal Limit

During inspection, police found that both rear tyres were below the legal tread depth limit. An immediate prohibition was placed on the vehicle. This means that even if it is released from the seizure compound, it cannot be driven until the issues have been fixed.

The vehicle stop was carried out by the Roads Policing Team, who have been supporting the Truro neighbourhood police team in tackling reports of antisocial behaviour in the area.

PS Dave Pearce said:

“We know that antisocial driving has been responsible for causing a real nuisance across our communities. Not only that, but this dangerous manner of driving can also put other road users and pedestrians at risk.

“Our officers continue to be out patrolling our roads, issuing S59 notices where necessary to prevent and deter further antisocial driving.”

Dave added:

“If you see any incidents of antisocial driving, please report it to us. Make note of the location, car model, colour and if possible, the licence plate.

“We’re listening and taking action.

“Your information is a vital in helping us with our investigations, so please keep reporting.”

Antisocial use of a vehicle includes street racing, performing tricks or stunts, street cruising, off-road use or noise pollution.
