Dog Owners Warned: Letting Pets Run Near Livestock Could Land You in Trouble
Dog owners are being reminded of their responsibilities when walking near livestock, with police warning that letting dogs run loose can lead to serious harm and potential legal consequences.
The message comes from the Devon & Cornwall Police Rural Affairs Team, which is urging people to keep their dogs under close control when out in the countryside.

Keep Dogs on Short Leads
Under the Countryside Right of Way Act, dogs on access land should be kept on a lead no longer than two metres and always under close control. This applies whether livestock are present or not.
Allowing dogs to run loose around livestock can cause serious harm, and owners may be held legally responsible for the consequences.
A Simple Step That Prevents Bigger Problems
The Rural Affairs Team says a simple precaution can help prevent problems.
“A short lead today prevents long-term consequences tomorrow.”
