Pupils Return to See Flowers They Planted Bloom for Falmouth Show

Primary school pupils who helped plant flowers at the Princess Pavilion last autumn have returned to see their efforts come into bloom ahead of this weekend’s 116th Falmouth Spring Flower Show.

Pupils Help Prepare Flowerbeds

Pupils from Constantine School and Penryn Primary School first visited the Princess Pavilion in October last year to plant wallflowers in the flowerbeds around the lawn and bandstand.

The planting session was carried out under the guidance of Falmouth Town Council gardener Pat.

The pupils recently returned to the site to see the flowers in bloom. During the visit, they used the displays as inspiration for artworks that will be exhibited during the flower show.

Their involvement reflects how the long running event encourages younger generations to take an interest in gardening, creativity and the natural environment.

Flower Show Returns This Weekend

Organised by Falmouth Town Council, the 116th Falmouth Spring Flower Show takes place this weekend on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd March at the Princess Pavilion.

The free event celebrates the arrival of spring with floral displays, horticultural exhibits and a wide range of show classes for all ages.

This year’s show features 870 entries from 95 exhibitors, with flowers and plants grown by gardeners, horticultural societies and specialist growers from across Cornwall.

Due to an increase in school and children’s exhibits, a marquee will be set up in the courtyard at the Princess Pavilion to provide extra space for displays.

National Daffodil Day Feature

The second day of the show on Sunday 22nd March coincides with National Daffodil Day.

Daffodils will feature prominently in the programme, including several competitive classes dedicated to the flower as well as the South West Daffodil Group Challenge.

Plants, Trade Stands and Workshops

Visitors will be able to browse 18 trade stands offering plants, bulbs, succulents, garden accessories and advice from local growers and garden suppliers.

The four acres of Gyllyngdune Gardens surrounding the Princess Pavilion will also be open for visitors who want to explore the grounds or stop for refreshments at The Garden Room café.

Local outdoor learning providers Taller Than Trees will be running bushcraft workshops for children and adults, giving visitors the chance to learn practical outdoor skills through hands on activities.

A Show with More Than a Century of History

The Falmouth Spring Flower Show dates back to the early 1900s and traditionally marked the opening of Cornwall’s garden season.

After many years being run by the Falmouth Spring Flower Show Committee, the event is now managed by Falmouth Town Council, helping ensure the show continues while welcoming new exhibitors and visitors.

Residents and visitors are invited to attend the event and celebrate the colour and variety of spring flowers.
