Treviglas Academy Students Perform Shakespeare’s Macbeth

Nearly 1,000 Watch Students Bring Macbeth to Life in Newquay

Treviglas Academy has wrapped up a week of performances of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, with nearly 1,000 people attending six shows that celebrated the talents and dedication of its students.

The productions featured a mix of live music, dance and a strong acting ensemble, with the school staging two separate performances that each featured a different cast.

Two Casts, One Ambitious Production

By presenting two versions of the play, Treviglas Academy highlighted the depth and versatility of its student body.

Two of the performances also included a collaboration with Nansledan Primary School, giving primary pupils the chance to take part in the production and experience being part of a creative community performance.

The shows were widely praised online, including a message from the Mayor of Newquay, Drew Creek.

Drew Creek said:

“I was blown away with the performance of Macbeth on Thursday evening. From the set to the makeup and costumes to the performance itself, I was gripped from start to finish. I was particularly impressed with the children’s ability to recite Shakespearean words with gusto while delivering such a dramatic performance. Please pass my congratulations to all the young people involved as well as the wider staff.”

Praise for Students and Staff

Throughout the rehearsal process, students were described as showing bravery, ambition, resilience and dedication. Each performance reflected the work that had gone into preparing the production, with students supporting each other across the cast and crew.

Lead Teacher of Creative Arts at Treviglas Academy, Sam Colborne, praised the efforts of everyone involved.

Sam Colborne said:

“We are so proud of the students- every one of them excelled themselves! Treviglas extends its heartfelt thanks to the Royal Shakespeare Company, Hall for Cornwall, and Prodigal UPG for their ongoing support, inspiration and guidance. Special appreciation is also given to all audience members whose enthusiasm and feedback have made this week even more memorable.”

Professional Praise for Young Performers

Prodigal UPG, one of the collaborating companies involved in the production, also praised the students’ performances.

A spokesperson said:

“The greatest respect you can give these students is to treat them as professionals – which Treviglas Academy did – and they honoured that respect with an outstanding production. So impressed to see these young actors tackling one of the great plays and handling Shakespeare’s verse better than many in the profession. Superb!”

Headteacher James Rogers said the performances reflected the effort and creativity of the whole school community.
