Nansledan’s Market Street Hits Major Construction Milestone

The Duchy of Cornwall has marked a significant step forward in the development of Market Street at Nansledan, with the first floor slab for the new commercial units now successfully poured.

First Concrete Poured On Site

The milestone saw around 140 tonnes of concrete laid during the first phase, supplied by Cornish company Fahey’s Concrete from St Austell. This is the first in a series of slabs due to be completed over the coming weeks as construction continues across the site.

The work follows earlier groundwork and piling, with the project now visibly moving above ground level.

Harry Greaves, Site Manager for the Duchy of Cornwall, said:
“Pouring the first of the floor slabs is a huge milestone for the project and a real testament to the hard work of everyone on site, particularly after what has been one of the wettest and most challenging winters on record. The groundworks team has been brilliant and we’re incredibly grateful for their efforts.

“This stage allows us to really move the project forward. With further slabs being laid in the coming weeks, we’re preparing for the arrival of the steel frame in June, when people will really start to see Market Street taking shape above ground.”

Plans For A New High Street

Market Street is set to become the commercial centre of Nansledan, bringing together food, retail, workspace and leisure in a modern high street setting.

Plans include a Tesco supermarket, a Market Hall showcasing Cornish food and drink, independent retail units, community space and flexible workspace.

The first phase, which includes Tesco, the Market Hall and five shop units, is due to be completed next year.

What Comes Next

A second phase is planned for completion by the end of 2028. This will include 13 shop units, seven offices and a public courtyard designed for outdoor dining and community events.

Nansledan itself continues to grow, with around 900 homes and more than 40 local businesses already established. The area also features green open spaces such as wildflower meadows, orchards, wetlands, community allotments, play areas and a skatepark.

Commercial units on Market Street will range from smaller start-up spaces of 23 square metres to larger units of up to 370 square metres, available under a range of lease terms.
