Hayle Runners Perform Strongly at Falmouth Half Marathon

Falmouth Half Marathon is known for its scenic views, but it is also widely recognised as one of the tougher races on the calendar. On Saturday 15th March, 50 members of Hayle Runners took on the challenge as part of the fifth event in the Cornish Grand Prix series.

A Tough Coastal Route

The 13.1-mile course begins just below Falmouth’s Princess Pavilion, looping runners around Pendennis Headland before heading out along the coast road. Along the way, competitors pass Gyllyngvase and Swanpool beaches, with views stretching out towards Maenporth Beach, before returning past Pendennis Castle.

Despite the hills, wind and rain, the Hayle team, often referred to as the Green Army, delivered a strong set of results across the board.

Team Success Across the Board

Hayle’s ladies’ team secured first place, with strong performances from Arianna Caddy, Fiona Gamble, Kirsty Medlock, Debbie Jayne, Andrea Simmons and Corinne Gerrard.

The men’s team also impressed, finishing second overall thanks to Sam Farmer, Francis Malone-Lee, Ross Rielly, Liam O’Neill, Elliott Holmes and Kieran Murrant.

Podium Finishes and Age Category Results

There were multiple age category prizes for the club. Fiona Gamble took silver in the 40 to 44 category, while Kirsty Medlock secured gold in the 45 to 49 group. Debbie Harrison Webb earned silver in the 55 to 59 category.

Andrea Simmons and Diane Warren achieved first and second place finishes in the 70 to 74 group.

In the men’s categories, Ross Rielly finished second in the 35 to 39 group, while Francis Malone-Lee also took second in the 45 to 49 category. Ian Curnow claimed gold in the 55 to 59 group, with Mark Williams securing silver in the same category.

Jon Eldon continued his strong form with gold in the 65 to 69 category, and Rowan Mulliss took silver in the 70 to 74 group.

Strong Performances and Personal Milestones

Club chairman Richard Collett said: “The Falmouth Half Marathon is always a well-supported race and a solid test over the distance. Our ladies team taking first place and the men finishing second, along with 11 age category prizes, made it a strong day for the club. It was also great to see Arianna Caddy lead the ladies home for the first time, which is a fantastic milestone.”

There were also several personal highlights. Hannah Bundy completed her first half marathon in 2 hours, while Sarah Thomas achieved a personal best, improving her previous time by 15 minutes.

Teigan Turner also recorded a personal best, crossing the finish line alongside Tear Lily.

Arianna Caddy delivered one of the standout performances of the day, finishing 6th overall. In doing so, Arianna also achieved personal best times across multiple distances, including 5km, 10km, 20km and the half marathon itself.

The event once again proved both a test of endurance and an opportunity for strong team performances, with Hayle Runners making their mark across multiple categories.
