St Moritz Hotel Announces Petrol Payback Offer for Visitors
A hotel in Rock is offering to cover part of guests’ fuel costs in what is being described as a UK-first move aimed at encouraging more people to choose a staycation this year.
St Moritz Hotel & Cowshed Spa has launched a new offer designed to offset rising petrol prices, as more holidaymakers look closer to home for their Easter break.

A response to rising costs and changing travel plans
The offer comes as global uncertainty and rising oil prices have pushed up fuel costs, with UK drivers now paying around 15% more to fill up.
At the same time, a survey by Harris Poll UK suggests that up to 40% of people who had planned to travel abroad over Easter are now choosing to stay in the UK instead.
Figures from the RAC also highlight the scale of domestic travel, with more than 19 million road trips taken during Easter 2025, alongside millions more during the May bank holidays. Cornwall and the wider South West continue to see a large share of those journeys.
How the petrol payback works
The hotel has grouped UK postcodes to offer different levels of discount based on how far guests are travelling.
- Guests from Wales and the South West can use the Tank-Top-Up code for £15 off
- Those travelling from the South East, London and the Midlands can use Say-No-To-Surcharges for £20 off
- Visitors coming from the North and Scotland can use Fuel-My-Holiday for £30 off
The offer applies to new bookings made by 12th April, with stays taken before 1st July. It covers a wide range of accommodation, including hotel rooms, suites, apartments, penthouses and houses.

“Pumped up petrol prices be damned”
Steve Ridgway, Co-Founder of St Moritz Hotel & Cowshed Spa, said:
“The Great British hospitality industry has to pivot once again and find yet more exciting ways to encourage our much-valued staycationers to book their getaways in our midst. Whilst the St Moritz team can’t control global security or Trump being Trump, we can offer to take the strain of the additional driving costs for our UK guests. So that’s what we’re doing by saying ‘Pumped up petrol prices be damned’ and giving all new bookers an immediate postcode-related discount on top of our other great offers.”
Steve’s brother Hugh Ridgway added:
“‘Cost creep’ and the constant headlines are concerning for everyone, so with ‘Pumped up petrol prices be damned’ we’re cutting any barriers to booking and helping everyone reclaim the much-needed joy of getting away. It’s about celebrating the simplicity of the great British break: of that feeling of packing up the car, getting on the road, and knowing you’ve got a jolly good Cornish time ahead of you. Here in Rock, we’re all about coastal calm, relaxed luxury, good food, nature’s playground, fresh air, the space to breathe, and the ability to just be. No drama. No politics. Just pure Cornwall.”
