Drivers Caught Out on A39 as AI Trailer Watches Closely

Drivers travelling along the A39 near Penryn are being monitored as part of a road safety enforcement effort targeting seatbelt use and driver distraction.

AI Trailer Deployed in Penryn

Devon & Cornwall Police Road Safety Team confirmed that an Acusensus AI trailer has been set up on Friday 27th March along the A39 Penryn Bypass, positioned alongside the ASDA supermarket.

The technology is designed to detect drivers committing distraction offences, including the use of a mobile phone, as well as those not wearing a seatbelt.

Focus on Safety

The deployment comes alongside a reminder about the risks associated with not wearing a seatbelt.

In 2024, 29% of all fatal collisions in Devon & Cornwall where a seatbelt should have been worn, it was not.

Drivers are being urged to avoid using their phones while driving and to always wear a seatbelt, with both measures described as life savers.

Ongoing Enforcement

Motorists travelling through the area should be aware that the trailer is actively monitoring passing vehicles, with the aim of improving safety on the roads.
