Camborne Town Council Progresses Three Town Deal Projects

Camborne Town Council is working with partners to deliver three Town Deal projects aimed at benefiting communities across the town.

The work forms part of Camborne’s wider Town Deal programme, which secured £23.7 million in funding in 2021. In total, the programme includes 10 projects focused on regenerating the town centre and improving Camborne as a place to live, work, shop and visit.

Major plans for Awenva hub

At the centre of the Town Council’s work is Awenva, a £14 million development described as a flagship project.

The scheme will transform the former Council offices and the White House in Basset Road into a new arts, education and cultural hub. Of the total funding, £11 million has come from the Town Deal programme, with a further £3.2 million provided by Cornwall Council.

The project will also secure the long term future of the two Grade II listed buildings while creating energy efficient spaces for a wide range of services and activities.

Plans for the site include relocating and expanding the town’s library, alongside space for education and training, startup businesses, and culture and heritage exhibitions. A youth and community teaching café and a sensory garden are also included.

In addition, the hub will offer flexible spaces for lectures, conferences, concerts, creative activities such as arts and crafts, community art displays, and health and wellbeing services. Facilities are also planned for counselling, occupational therapy, social drop in sessions, youth groups, toddler groups and dementia friendly events.

A new glass atrium will be constructed to link the two existing buildings together.

Work underway and timeline confirmed

Listed building consent and full planning permission for Awenva were granted in 2025. Enabling works began in April 2025 and have now been completed by local construction company Classic Builders.

The next stage of construction is due to begin in April 2026, with the overall project remaining on track for handover to Camborne Town Council in October 2027.

Wider improvements across Camborne

Alongside Awenva, Camborne Town Council is also leading projects to create new green spaces at Holman Gardens and Park Gerry.

Together, the three projects are part of a broader effort to revitalise Camborne and improve facilities for residents, businesses and visitors.
