This Beach Plot Sold for £15k… But Look What Else Went Under the Hammer

A stretch of Cornish beach land with views towards St Ives has sold for just £15,000, as a wide range of property and land across Cornwall went under the hammer.

The sale was part of Clive Emson Auctioneers’ March online auction, which concluded on Thursday 26th March and featured 186 lots across England.

The freehold site of nearly three acres, located off Porthkidney Beach at Lelant, was listed as Lot 23.

Katie Semmens, senior auction appraiser, said: “This was an exciting opportunity to acquire your own section of breathtaking Cornish beach and cliff land, and the final bid was for £15,000. It is situated in a truly idyllic setting just above Porthkidney Beach with breathtaking views over the beach itself and over to Hayle beach and Towans.”

Camborne Plot with Planning Permission Available

In Camborne, land behind Trelowarren Street is currently available at £28,000. The site comes with planning permission for a single detached home and was listed as Lot 38.

Strong Interest in Properties Across Cornwall

In Helston, a former Lloyds Bank building in Market Place sold for £132,000, exceeding its guide price of £120,000-plus. The property includes two basements, a ground and first floor, along with a banking hall, offices, lift, safe room, store rooms, WC and kitchen.

Katie Semmens said: “There was keen interest on this former bank building, if you pardon the pun, with the e-gavel coming down on a final bid of £132,000, which was £12,000 above the guide price.”

In the Penzance area, 40-41 Causewayhead is available at £155,000 with planning permission for redevelopment into four flats while retaining part of the ground floor commercial unit.

Also nearby, Mrs Joes Cottage in Tremethick Cross sold for £105,000. The two-bedroom home includes a garage, communal off-road parking and a garden.

A commercial property at 18 Victoria Square in Truro sold after the auction with a guide price of £110,000-plus.

At Perranwell Station, a two-bedroom semi-detached house at 10 Greenwith Crescent sold for £169,000, which was £54,000 above its guide price after 28 bids.

Bungalows and Land Draw Competitive Bidding

Two detached bungalows at 9 and 10 Polvellan Terrace near Looe sold with a guide price of £150,000-plus. Both properties have two bedrooms and were described as requiring improvement.

In St Austell, a two-bedroom bungalow at 33 Bethel Road sold for £111,000 after attracting 36 bids.

James Lofthouse, auction appraiser, said: “This bungalow, in a pleasant residential location on a good-sized plot, attracted 36 bids, with the final one at £111,000, which was £46,000 above guide price.”

Land in Montgomery Road, Penwithick, St Austell, extending to 0.38 acres, sold for £22,500, more than twice its guide price, with 28 bids placed.

Elsewhere in the same auction, two parcels of freehold land forming part of the Hayle Estuary are currently available at £5,000. Located alongside Hayle Terrace, the combined plots extend to nearly four acres and were listed as Lot 26.

Near Liskeard, a three-bedroom end-terrace property at 3 Woodland Cottages in Upton Cross sold for £100,000, exceeding its guide price by £30,000 after 11 bids.

Cornwall Council also instructed the sale of two parcels of land in Latchbrook, Saltash. One plot in Sycamore Road, measuring 0.06 acres, sold for £4,000, while a smaller 0.02-acre plot remains available at £250.

Clive Emson Auctioneers has confirmed its next online auction will conclude on 7th May, with bidding opening 48 hours beforehand.
