Dispersal Order Introduced

According to Falmouth and Helston Police, Cornwall’s Neighbourhood Support Team took action after an increase in incidents of crime and disorder on previous weekends at Gyllyngvase Beach and Queen Mary Gardens.

A Dispersal Order was put in place under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. The order aimed to help protect members of the public from being harassed, alarmed or distressed and to prevent further crime and disorder.

Over 100 Youths Dispersed

Over the course of Saturday afternoon and evening, officers safely dispersed more than 100 youths from the area.

Police dealt with several incidents during the operation. One youth was stopped and searched on suspicion of theft following reports of large groups taking alcohol from a local store. One adult was also stopped and searched for drugs possession.

Emergency Response to Unconscious Teenager

Officers also responded to a serious incident involving a 15-year-old male who was found unconscious and unresponsive.

Police administered first aid before paramedics arrived. The teenager was then taken to hospital for further assessment and treatment.

Further Searches and Incidents

Throughout the evening, three adults were stop searched under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. They were found to be in possession of class A and B drugs.

A male was also identified as having been abusive towards staff at licensed premises and was dealt with by officers.

Police Thank Public for Reporting Concerns

Falmouth and Helston Police said they understand the impact anti-social behaviour has on the community and local traders and confirmed they are taking the matter seriously.

They also thanked those who reported concerns, stating that public information helps officers respond effectively.

Anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour is asked to report it by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency.
