Oddfellows Groups Celebrate Easter with Community Events

Members of Oddfellows Friendship Groups in Redruth and the Truro area marked Easter with a series of lively afternoon gatherings filled with activities, prizes and community spirit.

The events brought members together for Easter-themed competitions, with chocolate eggs up for grabs, alongside card bingo and duck racing sessions where Easter eggs proved popular prizes.

Easter Fun and Friendly Gatherings

Across the gatherings, members enjoyed a mix of entertainment and social time, with refreshments including tea, coffee, cakes, biscuits, fruit, sweets and small Easter eggs.

Take-home puzzle sheets and free books were also provided, adding an extra touch to the afternoons.

Prize raffles were held during the events, with proceeds going towards local charitable causes.

Donkey Adoption Continues

A key moment during the gatherings was the announcement that the group has renewed its adoption of Amos, a donkey cared for at the Flicka Foundation Donkey Sanctuary in Mabe Burnthouse near Penryn.

Members regularly visit the sanctuary and see first-hand the work being carried out to rescue animals from neglect and cruelty. Amos was rescued from a live animal market in 2019, arriving in poor condition before being nursed back to health.

The continued adoption reflects the group’s ongoing support for charitable causes. In recent months, local Oddfellows have also supported Hidden Help and Sue’s Cat Rescue.

Support and Member Benefits

During the afternoons, members also received an update from an Oddfellows District welfare representative, focusing on dental and optical grants available to members.

The sessions highlighted the wider support available through the organisation, alongside the social side of the friendship groups.

The Plymouth and Truro District of the Oddfellows is part of one of the UK’s oldest friendly societies, offering a welcoming environment for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Members can take part in friendship groups and regular social gatherings across Redruth, Truro, Plymouth and surrounding areas, including lunches, trips, quizzes, talks, games and special events.

Membership also includes welfare support, access to a travel club, opportunities to volunteer and raise funds for charitable causes, and the chance to build lasting connections.
