Gas Pipe Upgrades Begin in Saltash with Traffic Measures in Place

Saltash Roadworks Begin

Gas pipe upgrade work has begun in Saltash, with several road restrictions and traffic measures set to affect drivers over the coming months.

Wales & West Utilities has started a programme of upgrades across the town, focusing on the Hawthorns and Frobisher Drive areas. The work is part of a wider investment of more than £2.2 million over the next two years to improve gas infrastructure in Saltash.

Where and When the Work Is Happening

Work in the Hawthorns area is scheduled to start on 20th April and is expected to finish on 22nd June. Meanwhile, work on Frobisher Drive began on 13th April and is set to continue until mid-August.

As part of the plans agreed with Cornwall Council, motorists will face give and take traffic management on Hawthorns between 20th April and 22nd June, and on Alamein Road from 11th May to 1st June.

Throughout the Frobisher Road project, drivers can also expect give and take systems and rolling traffic lights where needed.

Additional Road Closures Planned

Several temporary road closures and one-way systems are also scheduled:

• Culver Road will have a road closure and one-way system from 27th July to 7th August
• Victoria Road will be closed with a one-way system from 27th July to 31st July
• Lower Port View will be closed from 3rd August to 14th August

Long-Term Investment in Saltash

The work forms part of a larger programme that will see more than 7,700 metres of gas pipes upgraded across Saltash.

Natalie Raphael, who is managing the project for Wales & West Utilities, said:

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
