Eden Project to Host Live Rainforest Lesson for UK Children on 22nd April

Eden Project’s Rainforest Lesson Set to Reach Thousands of Children

Children across the UK are being invited to step inside the tropical Rainforest Biome at the Eden Project for a new live online lesson designed to inspire young people to connect with their communities.

The free session will take place on 22nd April 2026, running from 10.00am to 10.45am, and is aimed at Key Stages 1 and 2 pupils aged 5 to 11.

Live from Cornwall on Earth Day

Streaming directly from the Eden Project in Cornwall, the 45-minute lesson will give children the chance to explore how friendship, food and helping others are all connected.

The session has been created by the Eden Project’s education and communities teams and follows the success of last year’s live stream, which reached around 11,000 students.

It is based on a new story titled One Big Rainforest Do, taking pupils on an interactive journey through the rainforest. Along the way, children will solve riddles, ask questions and learn how plants can inspire people to share, celebrate and lend a hand in their own communities.

Linking to the UK’s Biggest Weekend of Community

The lesson also brings together two major community events, The Big Lunch and The Big Help Out, which will join forces for the first time between 5th and 8th June 2026.

More than 10 million people across the UK are expected to take part over the weekend, from sharing food with neighbours to volunteering locally or spending time with others in their community.

A wide range of organisations are supporting the weekend, including The Scouts, Girlguiding, Barnardo’s, NSPCC, Sea Cadets, YHA and Family Volunteering Club.

Encouraging Action at a Young Age

Sam Kendall, Head of Education at the Eden Project, said:
“We’re inviting children to step into Eden’s incredible rainforest and discover how everything is connected, from the food we eat to the communities we are part of.
This session is all about sparking curiosity and showing that even small actions, like sharing a bite to eat with a neighbour or picking up litter in your local park, can have a real impact. It’s set to be fun, interactive and full of ideas that children can take back to their schools, families and neighbourhoods.”

Supporting Learning Beyond the Classroom

The lesson supports topics including Citizenship, Personal Development, Wellbeing, Sustainability and Ecology. It also includes links to free classroom resources so schools can continue learning after the session.

Families are also encouraged to take inspiration from the lesson at home, whether by sharing food or helping others in their local area during the June weekend.
