Cornwall Climate Care Needs You Now – Every Pound Doubled

A Cornwall-based climate education charity has secured a spot in a national match-funding campaign, meaning every pound donated will be matched for one week only.

Cornwall Climate Care has been selected to take part in the Big Give’s Earth Raise campaign, running from the 22nd to the 29th of April. During that window, donations made through BigGive.org will be doubled, turning a £5 donation into £10 for the cause. The charity’s fundraising target is £5,000, which, with matched funding, could reach £10,000.

What Does Cornwall Climate Care Do?

Cornwall Climate Care is a multi-award winning environmental engagement charity that produces short, accessible climate-based documentaries as part of a wider outreach programme. Since 2020, the charity has made nine documentary films that have been viewed online more than 90,000 times. Over 7,500 people have attended live screenings, and workshops have been delivered to 8,400 young people across Devon and Cornwall.

Their programmes are designed to help people understand climate change, explore what they can do locally, and celebrate the work already taking place in communities across the south west. Thousands of participants have already made changes to their habits, from buying local and cutting down on plastic, to switching to renewable energy suppliers and getting involved in community action.

Even Sir David Attenborough has taken note, saying: “The need you have identified is indeed a real one and your films meet it very well. Congratulations and best wishes for more.”

What the Funding Would Mean

With the money raised through Earth Raise, the team aims to triple the number of people engaged in their programmes. The focus would be on reaching new communities, bringing generations together and connecting with younger audiences through social media content.

Nicola Nuttall, Cornwall Climate Care’s Director, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity at a pivotal time for us. We are delighted to have been chosen as a part of this national scheme. The extra funding this opportunity will bring will allow us to deliver creative workshops in new communities, host film events that bring generations together across Devon and Cornwall, encouraging conversations that currently aren’t happening, and create bite-sized content for social media to connect more effectively with young people.

“We want to bring more people into the conversation, helping them to better understand the changes taking place around them whilst empowering those who feel helpless or uncertain about the climate crisis.
