Newquay’s Green Cabinets Are a Mess. Now Someone’s Doing Something About It

Newquay BID has secured a commitment from Openreach to address the state of its green street cabinets across the town centre, after what the organisation describes as “ongoing pressure” on the telecoms giant.

Openreach has now officially acknowledged the issues, which include damage and vandalism to the distinctive green cabinets that sit across the town.

What’s happening on the ground

Newquay BID has already carried out an initial audit of the town centre, with plans to expand the survey into surrounding areas over the coming weeks. But the organisation is asking residents and visitors to play their part too.

Anyone who spots a damaged or vandalised Openreach cabinet is being urged to report it directly to Openreach. The message from Newquay BID is simple: the more reports submitted, the greater the pressure on Openreach to act, and the quicker improvements are likely to follow.

Roads in the frame too

Alongside the Openreach situation, Newquay BID says it has also been contacted by Highways following a recent press release. The organisation has committed to sharing updates on road signage safety and wider highways issues across the town as they develop.

Residents who spot road signage problems in the meantime can report them via Cornwall Council’s online form.
