Bodmin Is Getting Its Own Disability Football Club This Week

A new weekly Disability Football Club is launching at Bodmin Leisure Centre this Tuesday, giving people aged 16 and over the chance to play football in an inclusive, welcoming environment.

Run by GLL under its Better brand, in partnership with Cornwall Football Association and The Brandon Trust, the sessions begin on Tuesday 21st April from 2pm to 3pm and are open to people with a broad range of learning, physical and sensory disabilities.

What is pan-disability football?

Pan-disability football is an inclusive small-sided game designed to welcome players with diverse impairments. The focus is on participation, enjoyment, social connection and skill development rather than competition, making it accessible to a wide range of abilities.

Sessions will be led by qualified Brandon Trust football coaches.

Building on success in St Austell

The Bodmin club is an expansion of an existing partnership that already runs a Disability Football Club at St Austell Leisure Centre.

Rory Jarvis, from The Brandon Trust, said: “We’ve had such a great response in St Austell and interest in setting up in Bodmin. Our partnership with Better and Cornwall FA is having a positive impact on our clients.”

Chloe Harris, Cornwall FA Women, Girls and Disability Football Development Officer, added: “We believe in flexible, inclusive and accessible playing opportunities for everyone, and are committed to delivering a range of opportunities for players with a disability to access football at various levels across the county. We’ve been working with GLL to develop football opportunities in Cornwall over the last three years and are delighted to see this new club opening in Bodmin.”
