Devon & Cornwall Police Mark Response Policing Week of Action 2026

Devon & Cornwall Police are shining a light on the work of their frontline response officers this week, as part of the national Response Policing Week of Action 2026.

The week is a chance to recognise the bravery, dedication and professionalism of the officers who answer 999 calls across one of the most demanding policing areas in the country.

200 Calls Every Single Day

Devon & Cornwall Police cover the largest policing area and the longest road network in England. Their response officers attend around 200 emergency calls every day across Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Those calls can involve almost anything. In a single shift, an officer might secure the scene at a major incident, talk to a vulnerable person in crisis, deal with aggressive behaviour on a night out, and comfort a victim of burglary. Response officers never know what they are going to face when their shift begins.

“It’s Inspiring to See”

Local Policing Chief Superintendent Roy Linden paid tribute to his officers, including a recent large intake of new recruits.

“People join the police for a variety of reasons, but the single biggest factor is the desire to help others,” he said. “Response policing is the best example of that desire in action where our colleagues face a new challenge every day. We’ve just taken on one of our largest single intakes of new officers and you can really see the enthusiasm and determination to help in their eyes. They really want to make a difference, serve their communities and make their friends and families proud. It’s inspiring to see and it’s a privilege to work with people who do such brave and difficult work, often placing themselves in harm’s way to protect others.”

A National Effort

The week is being delivered in partnership with the National Police Chiefs’ Council and Oscar Kilo, the National Police Wellbeing Service. Throughout the week, forces across England and Wales are showcasing the work of their response officers on social media using the hashtag #ResponsePolicing.
