Treviglas Academy Opens Newly Refurbished Facilities After Five-Year Transformation

Treviglas Academy in Newquay has officially opened a suite of newly refurbished facilities, marking the completion of a five-year transformation programme led by The Roseland Multi Academy Trust.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place this week, with Floyd Steadman OBE, Deputy Lieutenant of Cornwall and former headmaster, doing the honours. He was joined by Chris Challis, CEO of The Roseland Multi Academy Trust, local MP Noah Law, and a range of guests including representatives from Cornwall Council, education leaders from across the county, and construction partners KEIR, TEC, 3MS, Kendall Kingscott and Cunningham Tylor.

What’s New?

Students guided guests on tours of the upgraded spaces, which include a brand new Humanities block built to replace the former Elliot Hut classrooms, a refurbished library, lecture theatre, conference room and food tech rooms. Visitors were also welcomed into a redeveloped quad area, which occupies the site of the school’s former community swimming pool.

A Celebration to Remember

The opening event had a distinctly Treviglas flavour. Guests enjoyed a cream tea accompanied by an acoustic performance from Esme, a Year 8 student, before a flash mob inspired by the school’s recent production of Macbeth brought a lively end to proceedings. Speeches from invited guests rounded off the afternoon.

Speaking at the event, Chris said the investment reflected the Trust’s broader ambitions: “This investment represents our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional learning environments for our communities. Treviglas Academy is a powerful example of the belief we have in creating spaces that enable our students to succeed.”

Headteacher James Rogers described the day as a milestone for the whole school community. “Today is a proud moment for our entire school community. These facilities are already making a real difference to the daily experience of our students. At Treviglas Academy, we have always had heart, soul and amazing students. Now we finally have the environment and buildings to match our ambitions for our students, families and wider community.”

Floyd, who addressed attendees as special guest, offered both praise and a challenge to students: “It was a pleasure to return to Treviglas Academy. The new facilities are very impressive and will undoubtedly enhance the overall student experience. My challenge to students is to make the most of these opportunities and strive to achieve their full potential.”

What Comes Next?

The Trust says further developments are already under way, with the aim of ensuring the Academy continues to grow and serve its community in the years ahead. The improvements are intended to cement Treviglas Academy’s role as a hub for education, events and wider community engagement across the area.
