St Austell Brewery Hauls in Three Awards in Its 175th Year

Three awards in a matter of weeks, including one that puts a Cornish beer in the running against the best in the country. Not a bad way for St Austell Brewery to mark its 175th year of brewing.

Gold for Big Job at MaltingsFest

The brewery picked up Gold in the Cask IPA over 5.5% ABV category for Big Job (7.2% ABV) at the regional Society of Independent Brewers and Associates (SIBA) Beer Competition, held during MaltingsFest in Newton Abbot earlier this month. Big Job is the amped up sibling of the brewery’s flagship IPA, Proper Job, jammed with hops and packed with tropical grapefruit and juicy blackcurrant flavours.

The Gold award means Big Job will progress to the national finals next March, where it will go up against the best beers from across the UK.

There was a second medal at the same competition for Mena Dhu (4.5% ABV), which took Bronze in the Keg Stout & Porter (6.4% ABV and under) category.

Organised by SIBA South West, MaltingsFest brings together hundreds of cask ales, keg beers, lagers and ciders from independent breweries across the region, with a strong focus on championing independent brewing.

Bronze on the world stage

Away from the festival, Proper Job 0.5%, the brewery’s first low alcohol IPA, picked up a Bronze medal at the World Alcohol Free Awards 2026. Nearly 600 drinks from more than 30 countries were entered, and Proper Job 0.5% was named among just 16 beers to receive a Bronze.

The trio of wins lands in the brewery’s 175th anniversary year, a run stretching from cask IPAs heavy with hops through to alcohol free beer.
