For families fleeing domestic abuse, a hot shower can mean far more than getting clean. It can mark the start of feeling human again.

That is the reality at a Cornwall safe house run by The Sparkle Foundation UK, where an old, unreliable boiler has been replaced thanks to a fresh donation from builders’ merchant Jewson and Worcester Bosch.

Two decades of support

Jewson has backed the Cornwall-based charity for more than 20 years, with regular product donations, fundraising and volunteering from staff. The latest contribution saw the firm team up with Worcester Bosch to supply and fit a new boiler at the safe house, replacing a system that had struggled to deliver consistent hot water and heating.

Andy Jordan, Divisional Managing Director for Jewson in the Southwest, said the charity carries out vital work for vulnerable people in the local community.

“From lending a hand and donating hundreds of products over the years, to providing logistical support when service users need the help of a tradesperson, we are always happy to help in any way that we can,” Andy said.

A foundation of dignity and safety

Leigh Yates, Founder and Chair of The Sparkle Foundation UK, said the old setup had been a major problem for residents.

“Before this donation, providing consistent heating and hot water was a significant challenge. When no one else could step in, Worcester Bosch provided a world-class product and Jewson ensured the partnership was seamless,” Leigh said.

“Now, our service users have the use of a hot shower in a space where they finally feel protected. This level of corporate support makes a tangible difference to the most vulnerable members of our community because this is more than just infrastructure. Instead, it is a vital contribution to the physical and mental wellbeing of people who need it most, as they begin to rebuild their lives.”

A spokesperson for the safe house added that reliable heating and hot water is not a luxury for the families staying there.

“It’s the foundation of dignity and safety at a time when life is truly challenging. We are so incredibly grateful to Worcester Bosch, Jewson and The Sparkle Foundation UK for providing the warmth and comfort these families truly deserve,” the spokesperson said.

Jewson is part of STARK Group, a business-to-business merchant and distributor of heavy building materials operating across Europe from more than 1,050 branches.
