Sennen Primary Passes Every Ofsted Test Under Tougher New Framework

A small primary school at the very tip of Cornwall has just pulled off something plenty of bigger schools are still anxious about, meeting the expected standard in every single area Ofsted now inspects.

Sennen Community Primary Academy was visited by inspectors on 24th February 2026, and the report confirms the school met the expected standard across all areas of the new framework.

What Ofsted looked at

Inspectors assessed leadership and governance, curriculum and teaching, attendance and behaviour, inclusion, achievement, and personal development and wellbeing. Sennen met the expected standard in each one.

The report points to strong leadership, high expectations of pupils, and a positive, inclusive culture running through the school.

The findings in detail

Inspectors said leaders have a clear grasp of what is working well, keep a close eye on teaching, and move quickly when something needs to change.

Early reading came in for particular praise, with pupils making a strong start and the school posting high outcomes in the Year 1 phonics screening check. Children are also achieving well in essential number facts.

The report recognises the school’s inclusive approach, its pastoral support, and the relationships staff build with families. The recent expansion of the nursery provision was also flagged as a success.

Headteacher Samantha Gillion said: “I am delighted that the inspection recognises Sennen school as a place where children experience a truly joyful education. This report reflects the dedication of our staff, the support of our families and our shared commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing school where every child can thrive.”
