New Face Joins CLA South West to Help Cornish Landowners

What does it take to advise rural businesses through one of the most uncertain periods the sector has faced? The Country Land and Business Association is betting on fresh expertise.

The CLA has appointed Alice Simon as its new Rural Surveyor in the south west, strengthening the advisory team that supports landowners and rural businesses across the region.

A varied background

Alice joins from Owen & Owen in Pembroke, where she advised private estates on land management matters. Before that, she worked as a Specialist Surveyor at Natural Resources Wales and held a position as Rural Chartered Surveyor at Savills.

In her new role, she will provide advice and guidance to CLA members on issues spanning land ownership, occupation, land use, and rural business.

Why the CLA appealed

Alice said: “The variety of work involved was one of the big factors that drew me to the CLA. The diversity of members queries means that no day will be the same, and I will cover such a wide breadth of activities, which is very exciting.”

A challenging time for rural businesses

CLA South West Regional Director Ann Maidment welcomed the appointment, pointing to the pressures currently facing the sector.

Ann said: “Alice brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the CLA team and we are delighted that she has joined us. It is a challenging time for the rural business sector and our advisory team are crucial in supporting our members to navigate the ever-changing and complex demands of land management.”
