Why Clodgey Lane Is Now on the Radar

Devon and Cornwall Police’s Road Safety Team has confirmed Clodgey Lane in Helston as a new enforcement site, following complaints from the workforce operating within the 20 mph temporary speed limit there.

Officers say they received reports from workers about the speed of traffic passing through the restricted area. The team then attended the location to assess the situation and confirmed there was an issue with vehicles failing to comply with the limit.

When Enforcement Will Take Place

Police will be returning to Clodgey Lane to carry out enforcement activity, but they have stressed this will only happen when workers are active on the site. That said, the 20 mph limit itself applies 24 hours a day, regardless of whether enforcement is in progress.

The force described the timing approach as a way to maintain proportionality.

A 45 Second Difference

The temporary limit covers half a mile of road. According to the Road Safety Team, sticking to 20 mph rather than the usual 40 mph adds just 45 seconds to a driver’s journey through the section.

In their post, officers urged drivers to take care when passing through road works, pointing out that speed limits are in place not only for the safety of motorists but also for workers on or near the road, who are at risk from speeding vehicles.

The team signed off with a reminder that road workers want to get home to their families too.
