Tegen Thompson Named New Head of School at Pool Academy

Parents at Pool Academy will recognise the new face at the top from September, though she has been working quietly in the background for some time.

Pool Academy, part of Athena Learning Trust, has announced that Tegen Thompson will become its new head of school in September, taking over from current principal Nick Ward, who is retiring.

Tegen will lead the day to day running of the school as it continues to focus on school improvement, student outcomes and community engagement.

A familiar face at Pool

Tegen is not new to the school. She currently works within the central trust team, supporting several schools across Athena Learning Trust including Pool Academy itself. Before that she served as vice principal at Pool, where she led the Year 11 cohort and built strong relationships with staff, students and families.

Her professional focus is on improving outcomes and building a school culture where students feel supported and valued.

Cornish through and through

Born and educated in Cornwall, Tegen lives locally with her young family. Her connection to the county runs beyond the school gates. She has previously represented Cornwall in both hockey and netball, and still plays netball for Falmouth.

I am committed to listening carefully to students, families and colleagues as we work together to build an even brighter future for Pool.”

Tegen takes up the post in September.
