Watergate Bay Plans Beach Silent Discos, Lobster Suppers and Yoga This Summer

Published On: 12 May 2026Last Updated: 12 May 2026By

Free silent discos on the sand, lobster suppers under the stars, and a yoga session with hundreds of mats laid out by the shoreline. Watergate Bay Hotel has lined up its busiest summer programme yet, and a fair chunk of it costs nothing to turn up to.

The beachside venue near Newquay announced the lineup this week, with events running from late May through to early September.

Free silent discos through the summer

The season opens on Saturday 23 May with the first of five free Summer Socials on the sand. From 2pm, the beach fills up with pop-up bars, street food, and a Kids’ Zone running kite-making, flower crowns and beach Quidditch. Lawn games come out too, cornhole, Jenga, boules and Kubb.

Then at 5pm the headphones go on. The silent disco runs until 7pm, “uplifting tunes” soundtracking what the hotel calls golden hour on the beach. Brewery partners Sharp’s are pouring, with rotating guest food traders alongside an open-air kitchen.

The four follow-up dates are 20 June, 25 July, 22 August and 5 September. All free, all ages welcome.

For locals, this is one of the few free family days out in Cornwall this summer that doesn’t involve packing a cool box and finding a patch of sand to defend for six hours. The fact it lands on five Saturdays through peak season is worth noting.

Yoga on the sand

On 25 May, the Ocean Flow crew bring silent disco yoga back to the beach. Hundreds of mats are laid out on the sand, wireless headphones distributed, and a Vinyasa flow runs against a mellow soundtrack with instructors guiding each movement live. Tickets are £14. More dates are pencilled in for July and August.

A gentler option runs twice a week through the season. Resident instructor Gemma Bolger leads Salt Air Yoga every Thursday and Saturday at 9am, open to all abilities. The hotel describes it as guided movement set to the rhythm of the shoreline.

Lobsters, wood fires and long tables

Three long-table feasts are set on the sand this summer, each one a different proposition.

The 7 June Sunset Supper Club (£65pp) serves wood-fired dishes straight from the flames with live music running all evening. The 22 July version (£75pp) goes bigger, with lobster as the main event in collaboration with sparkling wine producer Nyetimber.

Between the two, on Sunday 21 June, a slower-paced long-table lunch (£55pp) lands with Falmouth-based Loveday Distillery. It opens with a Verbena Spritz, moves through a seasonal wood-fired menu, and sends diners home with miniatures.

Anyone with a ticket to the three dining events can claim 10% off an overnight stay on new bookings at the hotel.
