Cornwall Faces Chilly Mid-May Spell With Hail and Thunder Risk

Mid-May usually brings the first proper taste of summer, but the week ahead has other ideas for Cornwall.

The Met Office forecast for South West England covering Wednesday 13th May to Sunday 17th May points to a notably cold few days, with sunshine, blustery showers, and the possibility of hail and thunder before things settle down later in the week.

Wednesday and into the night

Today will feel chilly across the region, though there will be some bright spells and sunshine to lift the mood. Heavy, blustery showers are possible, mainly further east, and there is a risk of hail. A brisk northerly wind will add to the colder feel. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 13°C.

Overnight, showers will ease but a few will persist, and the brisk northerly wind keeps going. It will feel rather chilly, especially where the wind bites, with temperatures dropping to a minimum of 8°C.

Thursday brings hail and thunder risk

Winds will gradually ease through Thursday, but scattered, blustery showers continue. Some of these could bring hail and thunder. Temperatures will remain below average for mid-May, with a maximum of 12°C.

A drier weekend on the way

Friday and Saturday look drier and brighter, with perhaps the odd shower and mostly light winds. Rain then arrives from the west on Sunday. Temperatures will slowly increase across the period but stay below average.
