Cornwall Hits 30°C Today Before the Weather Turns

The mercury is set to climb to 30°C across the South West today, but anyone planning to make the most of it should keep one eye on the sky. The hot, dry spell that has settled over Cornwall is about to shift, and the change starts sooner than you might expect.

A hot but unsettled Wednesday

Today brings another largely sunny and hot day for much of the region. The far west tells a different story, with conditions possibly turning murky in the Isles of Scilly and low cloud reaching west Cornwall by the evening.

Easterly winds are freshening through the day and will be gusty in places. From late afternoon there is the chance of isolated showers, with a risk of thunder. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 30°C.

A cooler night ahead

Wednesday evening stays bright and very warm for many. Cloud already sitting across the far west of Cornwall will spread eastwards overnight, and it will feel cooler than recent nights. The minimum temperature is forecast to drop to 13°C.

Thursday and beyond

Thursday opens bright in the east, though thicker cloud across the far west will push eastwards as the day goes on, perhaps bringing some showers in places. The east holds onto the warmth with a maximum temperature of 26°C.

Looking towards Friday 29th to Sunday 31st, conditions stay largely fine and settled. It will turn cloudier from the west at times, with the chance of a few showers, and temperatures will slowly return to normal.
