Mark Smith Appointed Portreeve and Mayor of Callington for 2026-27

A new face will lead Callington through its civic year, with the town’s historic Portreeve title passing hands at June’s Civic Gala.

Callington Town Council has confirmed that Cllr Mark Smith has been appointed as the Portreeve and Mayor of Callington for the 2026 to 2027 municipal year. Cllr Eleanor Valdebouze takes on the role of Deputy Portreeve and Mayor.

A Family Affair

Mark will be supported throughout the year by his wife, Debbie Smith, who steps into the position of Portreeve and Mayor’s Consort.

The trio will officially be celebrated at the Civic Gala in June, where the town traditionally marks the start of the new municipal year.

Thanks to the Outgoing Mayor

The council also paid tribute to outgoing Portreeve and Mayor Cllr Steven Pound, thanking Steven for his dedication, hard work and service to the community throughout the past year.

Mark and Eleanor now take on the responsibility of representing Callington and supporting residents across the year ahead.
