Cornwall’s Warm Spell to End in Thunderstorms This Week

That run of warm, settled weather Cornwall has been enjoying? It’s about to break.

Forecasters are warning of heavy showers and possible thunderstorms today, with the unsettled pattern set to stick around for the rest of the week.

Sunday marked the first real shift, with more rain and cloud breaking up the sunshine across the South West. Monday 1st June is forecast to be wetter still, bringing heavy showers and the chance of thunderstorms across the region.

Temperatures, which have been running above the May average for much of the past week, are now expected to drop back to seasonal norms as the days go on.

Friday 29th May reached a maximum of 23°C, with skies brightening from the west by lunchtime and plenty of sunshine developing through the afternoon. Saturday 30th May followed at 21°C, with early mist and fog clearing to leave bright and sunny spells for many.

The unsettled conditions are forecast to continue through to Tuesday 2nd June and beyond, with temperatures sitting close to average for the time of year.
