Police Urge Bodmin Residents to Lock Cars After Theft Reports

A locked door and a closed window might be all that stands between you and an unwelcome surprise on the driveway.

Bodmin Police are asking residents to stay alert after a run of recent reports involving theft from vehicles and theft of vehicles in the local area. Officers say offenders have been targeting cars left insecure and helping themselves to items left inside.

What’s Being Taken

The force says thieves are taking advantage of valuables left visible in vehicles. That includes bags, wallets, tools and electronics, the kind of everyday items drivers often leave on the passenger seat or in the footwell without thinking twice.

How to Protect Your Vehicle

Officers have shared a short checklist for drivers to run through:

• Always lock your vehicle, even when it’s parked on the driveway or directly outside your home.
• Remove valuables such as bags, wallets, tools and electronics. If that isn’t possible, make sure they are completely out of sight.
• Check your windows are fully closed.
• Consider additional security such as steering locks, tracking devices, CCTV, Ring doorbells and dash cams.

Reporting Suspicious Activity

Police are urging anyone who spots suspicious behaviour to report it straight away. Call 999 if a crime is in progress, or use 101 or online reporting for non-emergencies.

The force says awareness and quick reporting from the community help officers identify patterns and target patrols where they’re needed most.
