Cornish Tin & Lithium Finds New Tin Field at Tregonning

A drilling rig spent four months chewing through the rock under West Cornwall. What it brought back up has turned a lithium hunt into something with two prizes.

Cornish Tin & Lithium Limited, the company until recently known as Cornish Tin Limited, has published results from its Phase 3 exploration drilling at the Tregonning Project. The work ran from September 2025 to January 2026 and was set up to chase lithium-rich aplite-pegmatite sheets in a newly identified area called Tregonning South. It found the lithium. It also ran straight into an extensive new tin system that had not been mapped before.

The announcement landed on 3rd June 2026, the same day the company revealed its new name.

A lithium system stretching over three kilometres

The drilling confirmed that a lithium-bearing rock formation called the Newall Formation carries on well beyond the spot where it was first found at Tregonning North. Earlier drilling there had already turned up high lithium concentrations, including a 0.3 metre interval grading 1.33% Li₂O, with a peak grade of 1.42% Li₂O.

Phase 3 shows that system runs for about 3.27 kilometres, from Tregonning North down to Tregonning South. Drilling also picked up several lithium-bearing layers sitting at different depths across the area. That points to a lithium resource potentially larger than the company had thought.

Ten tin lodes and a sheeted vein system

The tin was the surprise. Phase 3 drilling cut through a new tin mineralisation system right across Tregonning South, with ten tin lodes identified so far and an associated sheeted vein system alongside them.

Some of the grades are high. Drilling recorded up to 2.69% tin in the Norcross No.1 Lode, 1.26% tin in the Rib North Lode and 1.68% tin in the Rib South Lode.

Together the lithium and tin findings add weight to Cornwall’s standing as a source of critical minerals tied to the UK’s energy transition, industrial resilience and longer-term supply chain security.

Why the company changed its name

The timing of the rebrand was no accident. Cornish Tin Limited is now Cornish Tin & Lithium, a name meant to reflect its move towards two commodities rather than one. Both tin and lithium feed technologies such as electric vehicles, renewable energy systems and advanced electronics.

The bigger picture in West Cornwall

Cornish Tin & Lithium is working two sets of ground. The Great Wheal Vor Project covers 26 former producing tin and copper mines in the Breage Mining District. Next to it sits the combined Tregonning Tin and Lithium Project, where the latest results came from.

The company has confirmed exceptionally high-grade tin and identified a major new hard rock lithium system across the sites, and now a major new tin field at Tregonning South as well.
