Duchy College Stoke Climsland Names Darren Evans as Principal

There is a new name above the door at Duchy College Stoke Climsland, and the man taking charge says he already knows exactly what the place is worth.

Duchy College Stoke Climsland has appointed Darren Evans as its new Principal. The college, one of the South West’s leading providers of land-based education, says the move reinforces its commitment to place-based education and training that supports Cornwall’s rural economies, communities and future workforce needs.

Darren will lead the continued growth and development of the college. The aim is to make sure learners benefit from Ofsted Outstanding teaching, industry-relevant training and clear progression pathways into employment, apprenticeships and higher education.

He said he was looking forward to heading a college that has “a long-standing reputation for excellence and plays a vital role in supporting learners, employers and communities across Cornwall”.

“I look forward to working with our talented staff, students and industry partners to build on our success and continue delivering outstanding opportunities for learners,” he added.

Part of a wider South West push

Darren joins Ed Parrish, Principal of Bicton College, in championing excellence in rural and land-based education across the South West as part of Cornwall College Group.

Together, the two will play a key role in supporting the region’s agricultural, environmental and rural economies by developing the skilled workforce needed for the future.

Cornwall College Group CEO Rob Bosworth said he was delighted with the appointment.

The Stoke Climsland campus runs a wide range of courses and training across agriculture, land and environment, sport, military and protective services, equine, animal care, land-based engineering, automotive engineering, outdoor education and progression pathways.

The college says the appointment reinforces its ambition to stay at the forefront of rural and land-based education, equipping learners with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to thrive in Cornwall and beyond.
