Porthtowan Surf Life Saving Club Submits Plans for New Clubhouse
It is being called a once in a generation chance, and it could change the look of Porthtowan beach for decades to come.
Porthtowan Surf Life Saving Club has submitted a planning application to replace its ageing clubhouse on the beach with a new flood resilient and modular building. The application, reference PA26/03474, is now live on Cornwall Council’s planning portal.
The club says it has been working towards this stage for some time, and it sees the application as a rare opportunity to secure a new community building on the beach.

What is being proposed
The plans are for a replacement clubhouse that stays within the existing footprint of the current building. The club says the new premises would be modular and flood resilient, which it hopes will guarantee a future for surf life saving on the beach for decades to come.
According to the club, the design would also:
- increase bio net gain through the creation of a new dune in front of the new building
- improve visibility across the beach for lifesaving
- enable a publicly accessible disabled toilet right on the beach
Who has been involved
The club says it has worked closely with a range of partners and stakeholders to reach this point. Those listed include the RNLI, Porthtowan Dunes Community Group, St Agnes Parish Council, Perran Moon for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle, Making Space For Sand, Surf Life Saving Cornwall, Surf Life Saving GB and the Cornwall Community Flood Forum, along with others.
What happens next
The club has said better visuals are on the way, showing how the new building would look in place. It is also planning to hold a public meeting in the next few weeks so local residents can ask questions, with details to follow.
