Volunteers wanted for Inclusive Cycling at Par Track and Carn Brea

A flask of coffee, a slice of cake and a front-row seat as someone finds their confidence on two wheels. For the volunteers behind one Cornwall charity, that’s a fairly ordinary Wednesday morning. And they’re hoping a few more people might fancy joining them.

The Cornwall Bicycle Project CIO has put out a call for volunteers to help run its Inclusive Cycling sessions, which take place on Wednesdays at Par Track and Fridays at Carn Brea Leisure Centre.

The charity says it’s always on the lookout for friendly faces to make those sessions welcoming, enjoyable and accessible for everyone who turns up.

What’s involved

You don’t need to be a cycling expert to lend a hand. The work ranges from helping riders get set up on the right cycle, to offering encouragement, chatting with participants and their families, or simply being an extra pair of hands.

According to the charity, the sessions run rain or shine, and the volunteers play a big part in keeping them friendly and accessible. The pitch is aimed at anyone who enjoys meeting people, being part of a team and helping others experience the freedom, confidence and joy that cycling can bring.

There’s a social side too. The Cornwall Bicycle Project describes its sessions as full of smiles, achievements and, more often than not, a coffee, a bit of cake and a bit of conversation along the way.
