Spiral UK Featured in Enginuity Apprenticeship Film

A national skills body went looking for some of the best apprenticeship training in the country, and one of the places it stopped was a factory in Helston.

Spiral UK, the engineering and manufacturing business based in the town, has been featured in a new film produced by Enginuity, the UK’s leading skills body for the engineering and manufacturing sector. The film was made as part of Enginuity’s work to close the skills gap across UK industry.

It highlights how Spiral UK, along with a handful of other local companies, are taking a distinct and effective approach to apprenticeship training and talent development. The release says that approach reflects the values, heritage and community spirit of Cornwall.

A Cornish case for apprenticeships

Spiral UK has long backed apprenticeships, treating the development of young people as central to its business strategy and to its responsibilities as a Cornish employer.

The company argues that Cornwall holds a wealth of knowledge and untapped skills that deserves greater recognition, and that manufacturers have a part to play in unlocking that potential for future generations.

“We feel passionately about supporting the learning of the apprentices who come through our doors,” said Eric Nicholls, Managing Director of Spiral UK. “We’re also proud of our Cornish heritage and know that we have a wealth of knowledge, not only within our factory but in untapped skills within our county. What Enginuity does

The visit to Spiral UK’s Cornwall facility forms part of Enginuity’s wider work to find and share best practice from employers across the UK.
