If You’re Heading to West Pentire for the Poppies, Read This

The poppies and wildflowers at West Pentire pull in a crowd every year, and the North Cornwall National Trust has a short list of requests for anyone planning to go.

Plan ahead, especially at weekends

It gets very busy at West Pentire, and weekends are the worst of it. The Trust has asked people to think about timing before setting off. If the local car parks are full when you arrive, the advice is to try again later, or come back another day instead.

What the Trust is asking visitors to do

Alongside working around the car parks, the Trust has set out a few simple asks. Stay on the established footpaths. Keep dogs on a lead. And please don’t fly drones or place photography equipment within the flowers.

The Trust knows people will want to capture the views. But it says the fields matter for far more than the photographs.

Why the fields need space

The display is different every year and depends on the weather. The Trust also rotates the fields as part of its conservation work, so what shows up one season won’t be what you find the next.

The fields are home to thousands of species of plants, along with small mammals and ground nesting birds. The Trust says those deserve space to be left undisturbed, and to keep thriving for years to come.

Visitors are asked to follow the advice on the signage once they are on site.
