Bude Coastguard Rescue Team grows as summer call-outs rise

Bude’s stretch of coastline is about to get a lot busier, and the local Coastguard Rescue Team now has four more pairs of hands ready for it.

Four pass out after months of training

Bude Coastguard Rescue Team has welcomed four new Coastguard Rescue Officers. Pictured left to right, Ollie, Jason, Brett and Andrew passed out on Monday after intensive new-entry training that ran throughout April, May and June.

What the training covered

The course was a long one. It included emergency first aid, rope and cliff rescue, water rescue, lost and missing person search, and working with helicopters, alongside a wide range of other core Coastguard skills.

They will keep building on those skills through weekly training and live call-outs. Those call-outs are already starting to climb as the summer season gets underway.

Now operational

The four are operational with the team straight away. Their arrival brings Bude Coastguard Rescue Team up to 16 Rescue Officers, ready to respond to emergencies along the coastline and beyond, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
