Free parking at Camborne’s Rosewarne car park to end in July

If you have been parking for free while nipping into Camborne town centre, make the most of it. The free hour at the Rosewarne car parks is about to disappear.

What is changing

The one hour of free parking at the Rosewarne car parks ends on 11 July. From 12 July, standard parking charges apply again.

The free hour was always a temporary arrangement. It was brought in at the start of January to help support businesses and the local community while highways works for the Camborne Town Deal Renew scheme were carried out in the town centre.

Why the free hour was there

The free parking formed part of the wider Camborne Town Deal Transport Project. The works were designed to improve the look of the town centre and make access easier for people on foot and on bikes, and they meant vehicles were periodically restricted from certain areas.

To keep people coming into town while all of that was going on, the free hour was offered as an incentive. With the project now moving into its final stages, that reason has gone, and so has the offer.

What to do before 12 July

Use the free hour at Rosewarne while you still can, up to and including 11 July. From the following day, budget for the usual charges.

One change is sticking around. The on-street free parking at the top of Trelowarren Street has been extended from 30 minutes to a full hour, so that remains an option for a quick visit.

What the Renew scheme delivered

The Renew scheme was aimed at improving the environment of the town centre. It has included:

• New seating and greenery
• Improved pedestrian crossings along Trelowarren Street
• A new zebra crossing at Fore Street
• On-street free parking at the top of Trelowarren Street extended from 30 minutes to an hour
• Repairs to paving defects in Commercial Square
• Enhanced lighting and CCTV
• New cycle parking

The standard charges return at Rosewarne on 12 July.
