The ‘disgusting pile of rubbish’ cleared by Bodmin volunteers

The carts were full, the hill was steep and the haul was grim. Bodmin Tidy it Team was back out on 2 July, and what they pulled off the streets was enough to make anyone wince.

25 bags and a load of dumped junk

The group cleared a pile of dumped items along with 14 bags of recycling and 11 bags of rubbish. Their message to anyone tempted to fly-tip was blunt. “If you don’t want something, please dispose of it correctly.”

The starting point caused problems of its own. “The problem with starting at the top of a hill is that it’s a tough pull back up with our carts full,” the team said.

A running total of 742 bags

The latest session pushes the group’s running total to 742 bags, plus all the loose junk that never made it into a sack.

The team thanked its volunteers by name: Lindsay, Max, Karen, Paul, Sue, Andy, Sue, Gary, Jamie, Jo, Steve, Tom, Lin, Ash, Trish and Anne, along with Biffa and Clean Cornwall. Jamie got a special mention after being back out with the group, with the team adding “good to see you again.”

Coffee on the house at Greggs

Once the work was done, the group headed off for a well-earned coffee and a chat. Greggs Cafe gifted free drinks to 10 of them. “What a treat,” the team said.

Where they’re heading next

The next clear-up is on Wednesday 8 July. The team will try to park around the College Lane and Green Lane area, meeting at 9.45am.
